Terry Hayhurst - August 29, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Terry Hayhurst a 17 year-old grade 11 student from North Park Collegiate who excels in the sport of darts. Terry was introduced to the sport in 1997 and has been a member of the Brant County Youth Darts Association for the past 6 years. He began winning both Provincial and National titles in 1999 when he placed 2nd at the Provincial Championships and placed both 1st and 3rd at the Canadian National Championships.
Since then Terry has won eleven 1st place awards, five 2nd place awards, two 3rd place awards and is currently ranked number 1 in North America for players aged 18 and younger. He was a member of Team Canada at the first 2002 Canadian/USA Challenge and the USA Classic Open where he won the pro shoot blind draw doubles and finished in the top eight for the men's cricket event.
Terry has also competed in several adult tournaments this year including the British Isle Trade Show in Toronto where he performed on stage with Russ Bray from Britain.
His goal is to become an Adult National and World ranked player. Terry has won Canadian, American and World rankings on his quest for a World Championship. His next challenge will be at the All-Canadian Open in Calgary this September.
