Shelby Cesar - July 2, 2009
Shelby Cesar is a sixteen year old grade 11 student from Pauline Johnson who participates in track and field, volleyball, basketball, wrestling and rugby.
She joined the Brantford Track and Field club in 2004 and played for two years. She was ranked the 3rd fastest girl in Ontario and received the Outstanding Minor Girl award. At the 2004 county track and field meet she placed 1st in the 100m, 200m and long jump and was 1st in the long jump and 2nd in 100m and 200m races at a Guelph meet.
At the 2005 county track meet she finished 1st in the 100m, 200m, long jump and relay. She attending the 2005 International Children’s Games in Cleveland and placed 56th out of 174 in the 100m and 34th out of 82 for the long jump. At the 2006 county meet she was 1st in the long jump, 100m and 200m races; she was 1st in the long jump, 100m, 200m and relay at BCSAA and was 1st in relay and the long jump in 2007.
Shelby played volleyball in grades 9, 10, and 11 for PJ and helped her teams win the title in grades 9 and 10. She was part of the wrestling team in 2006 and 2007 and placed first in her weight category.
Shelby played basketball through elementary school and helped her teams win every year except 2006. She also played basketball in grades 9 and 10 and participated in summer basketball in 2005 and 2006.
She started playing rugby in grade 10 and received the MVP that year. Shelby broke the record for the number of tries scored by an individual in PJ history. She also helped the senior girls rugby team finish 2nd in the city and plays harlequins rugby in the summer.
Shelby gets involved at school by helping coach and ref volleyball and track and field and volunteers in the community by assisting younger athletes in baseball and basketball.
She is a dedicated and hardworking student who achieves good grades and hopes to pursue a career in kinesiology and someday get a scholarship for rugby and hopefully play professionally.
