Sean Lord - January 22, 2004
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Sean Lord, a 17-year-old grade 12 student at Brantford Collegiate Institute (B.C.I.).
Sean became involved in gymnastics 12 years ago. He is now a provincially and nationally ranked gymnast, currently training with the Burlington Gymnastics Boys Club.
With his outstanding performance and athleticism, Sean achieved fourth place on the pommel horse at the Sakata Invitational in Japan in 2002. He was third all-around at the Canada Winter Games Trials in Woodstock, Ontario; he was also ranked first all-around at Elite Canada, in Montreal.
This year has seen Sean reach third place on the floor, and has seen him earn a spot on the silver medal team at the Canada Winter Games in Bathurst, New Brunswick. At the Ontario Provincial Gymnastics Championships in Woodstock, Ontario, he placed third all-around; and, at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Saskatoon, he ranked fifth all-around.
With these outstanding athletic accomplishments, Sean is unsure of what the future holds. He is considering taking a year off after high school to exclusively train for gymnastics, with the goal of earning a place on the Canadian Olympic team. The perfect follow-up to that would be receiving a scholarship for a university.
Sean has been on the honour roll at school two of the past three years. He volunteers his spare time at gymnastics meets and coaching young children.
He tries to be active in school life, when time permits. Sean was able to bring pride to B.C.I. when he went to CWOSSA and brought home a gold medal in pole-vaulting.
Congratulations Sean. |
