Reo Roland - February 19, 2009
Reo Roland is a fourteen year old grade 9 student from North Park Collegiate who has been actively involved in a variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and field, soccer and badminton.
She was a member of the NPC midget girls cross country team placing 2nd and leading the team to a 1st place finish at BCSSAA. She placed 11th at CWOSSA and lead her team to a 4th place finish.
Reo was a member of the NPC senior girls basketball team that finished 2nd at BCSSAA and participated at the 2008 KSA basketball Tournament in Florida finishing in 3rd place. She is also a member of the midget girls volleyball team.
She started playing soccer when she was 4 and played in house league and became a member of the BICS rep team at age 10. She currently plays centre mid-field on the BICS U15 girl’s soccer team. Her team won the 2008 Premier Division Championship and was promoted to South Region’s Elite Division for 2009. In July 2008 she helped her team finish in 1st place at the Brockport New York International Soccer Festival. Reo received the 2006 Players Choice MVP award and the 2007 Coaches Choice MVP award.
She is a point guard on the Briers Midget AAA basketball team and has been a member of the Rep Team for 4 years. In 2006 she helped her team finish 4th in Ontario in the Major Atom Division and in 2008 they were 4th in Ontario for the Major Bantam Division. In July 2008 she was a member of the Brantford Swish 3 on 3 basketball team that won 1st place in their age group at the Gus Macker basketball tournament in London.
Reo also enjoys badminton and participating in track & field. She has participated in the Brantford Classic Run for several years. In grade 8 she won 1st place in both the 800m and 1500m races at the Brant County Elementary School track and field finals. She also placed 1st in the 14-year-old girls’ age category in the 5 km run at the Subaru Niagara Run for the Grapes in Sept 2008.
Reo is a class 4 soccer referee and a member of the Brant County Branch of the Ontario Soccer Referee Association. She has refereed youth soccer games for the past two summers and has volunteered at BICS soccer tournaments, Briers basketball tournaments and at the North Park summer basketball camp in 2008. Reo also enjoys playing guitar and has been taking guitar lessons for 5 years.
In grade 8 she received the overall Academic award, Female Athletic award, President’s award, and was the co-valedictorian at Cedarland Public School. She is a hardworking and dedicated student who has a 94% average. She hopes to continue to be active in sports in high school and university, and plans to pursue a career in healthcare and medicine.
