Renee Matte - August 4, 2005
Renee Matte has been involved in synchronized swimming for the past seven years and she has become a top contender in the sport. In 2004/05 Renee along with her team-mates from the Waterloo Regional Synchronized Swimming Club (W.R.S.S.C) won a silver medal at the Waterloo Invitational Meet Tier 4 Team, they won a gold medal at the regional trials for the Ontario/Quebec Cup Tier 4 Team, and won silver at the Ontario Tier 4 Championships.
Renee had an equally successful season in 2003/04 winning gold at the Tier 5 Regional Winter Games trials and earned two bronze medals at the Ontario Winter Games – one for her outstanding duet routine and the other with her Tier 5 team. She was thrilled to receive the Coach's Award for her contributions to the W.R.S.S.C. Tier 5 team, that season.
Renee is a dedicated and hardworking athlete who always gives 100% and was recognized for her efforts during the 2002/03 season when the Brant Synchro Club presented her with the Most Dedicated Athlete Award. She also received the Figures Award with her club's Tier 4 Team.
Renee attends Georges P. Vanier High School in Hamilton where she is involved in their enrichment program. She is 16 years old was a member of her grade nine debating team, and is on her school's honor roll maintaining an incredible average of 90 per cent.
She enjoys helping others and combined her love of sports with meeting her 40 hours of community service by volunteering at various synchro and gymnastics events. In September Renee will be entering grade 11 and plans to maintain her high average and one day would like to become a pediatrician.
She recently earned her Level 1 Coaching for synchronized swimming, and passed the National Lifeguard Service Training and is on her way to becoming a Lifeguard. Renee's goal is to try out for the National Synchronized Swimming team, and intends to keep working hard to make her dream become a reality.
