Paige Churchill - July 8, 2004
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Paige Churchill, an 18-year-old recent graduate of Brantford Collegiate Institute (BCI) who plans to attend Queen's University in the fall to study physical and health education, with the future goal of pursuing a career in sports medicine
Paige is an avid rugby and basketball player, with interest also in volleyball, track and field, and cross-country. In June, she was named top female academic/athletic scholar at the 18th annual Brantford Bisons Alumni awards dinner. She was also named senior female athlete of the year at BCI, where she earned most valuable player awards in basketball, volleyball and rugby.
She has played soccer with the Brantford Soccer League, and is a member of the Brantford Harlequins women's under-19 rugby team. Paige was both a team member and captain for the Brantford CYO division basketball from 1994 to 2003, with many great achievements.
Outside of school, Paige volunteered for CYO basketball and for the Brant Figure Skating Club, where she competed at the provincial level from 1989 to 2002. She was also a peer tutor, a colour captain, and an assistant coach for the school's midget and junior girls' basketball teams.
Sports, academics, volunteering, and part-time jobs have always filled Paige's little spare time. She participated in the school's Relay for Life cancer fundraiser and, despite all of her activities, was able to achieve a grade average of 94.2 per cent for Grade 12.
Congratulations Paige and good luck! |
