Athlete of the Week - 2009


    Owen Dremak - September 17, 2009

    Owen Dremak is a ten-year-old grade 5 student who attends Agnes G. Hodge Elementary School and participates in several sports.

    He has been actively involved in soccer since 2003 and is a member of the Brantford Inter-City Soccer (BICS) U10 rep team which plays in the Premier Division of the HDMJCL League. He also plays for the Brantford Minor Hockey Major Atom A rep team and has been involved in hockey since 2003.

    Owen was a member of his school’s junior soccer team and the junior boy’s track and field team this year . He finished in 1st place in High Jump, advancing to the Regionals.

    Owen has received several individual and team awards including the 2006 BMHA (Burford) Pre-Novice Most Valuable Player; 2008 Brantford BICS HDMJCL Soccer MJ Cup Semi-Finalist; 2008 BMHA Preston International Tournament Novice A Finalist; 2008 BICS Brantford Classic U9 Tournament Finalists; 2009 Guelph March Mayhem Soccer Tournament Game MVP; 2009 BMHA London Oakridge Atom A Championship; 2009 Hamilton Canusa Games U10 Soccer Championship, and 2009 Hamilton HDMJCL MJ Cup Quarterfinalists. Owen scored 16 goals in regular season play, while adding 3 more during this summer’s Canusa games vs. Flint, MI.

    He enjoys swimming, road hockey, fishing and golfing during the summer. He is a dedicated and hardworking student who maintains a B+ average. In the future Owen would like to achieve a scholarship at a US College and play for his favourite NHL team the Detroit Red Wings.
