Nathan Maddock - June 26, 2003
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Nathan Maddock, a 16-year-old Grade 10 student at St. John's College who participates in and excels at many sports.
Nathan has been playing baseball since he was 6 years old. He has steadily advanced and started playing rep in 1999. Last summer, he had the chance to play for the Inter-County All-Star Team and the team won a gold medal at the Ontario Summer Games.
High school has introduced him to other sports, namely basketball, rugby and volleyball. Nathan's accomplishments demonstrate that he is a very dedicated athlete.
The St. John's College midget basketball team was undefeated last year and, with the help of Nathan, won the city championship. This year the junior team placed second at the city championships and also placed second at CWOSSA.
Nathan has also been playing Briers select for the past two years and was named to the all-star team of the CCH London tournament.
Having played volleyball for the past two years, Nathan was able to help the team win the city championship in 2003 by being the team captain.
Nathan has also played rugby for the past two years. He plans to play with the Harlequins this summer and go on tour to Wales with his school in March 2004.
This terrific athlete's hard work and dedication to sports has not gone unnoticed: Nathan received two consecutive MVP awards for baseball in 2000 and 2001; this year, he was MVP for both the junior volleyball team and the junior basketball team.
Nathan has just recently earned the honour of becoming "Athlete of the Year" at St. John's College for the 2002/2003 school year.
Congratulations Nathan! |
