Mitch Brown - April 29, 2010
Mitch Brown is a seventeen-year-old grade 12 student from Pauline Johnson Collegiate who enjoys a number of sports including hockey, soccer, golf, track and field, football and roller hockey.
Mitch started skating at the age of two and has been playing Brantford Minor Hockey since he was four. He has been a member of the Brantford 99'ers team since he was eight and helped his team win a gold medal at the Can/Am tournament in Lake Placid.
He has been involved in single “A” hockey for seven of the ten years of playing ice hockey and also participated in roller hockey for the Brantford Rolling Thunder.
In grade 9 Mitch won The Robert Freeman Memorial Athletic Scholarship award given to the junior male athlete who exhibits leadership, Sportsmanship & Skill. In grade 10 he was a running back on the PJ Warriors junior football team which earned him the football MVP of the year and the Athlete of the Year award.
This year Mitch was named Captain of the defense for PJ Thunderbirds senior football team where he was a key player who often played both offence and defence. In grade 11 he was also captain of the PJ soccer team.
Mitch was chosen to speak to elementary students as a role model for the D.A.R.E. program in grade 10.
He is a dedicated and outgoing student who despite being very busy with sports continues to maintain over 80% average throughout high school. Mitch plans on returning to PJ next year to continue his education and in the future hopes to pursue a career as a firefighter.
