Meghan Danielson - October 30, 2003
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Meghan Danielson, a 16-year-old North Park Collegiate student in Grade 11, who is very passionate about synchronized swimming.
She has been competing in synchronized swimming for eight years. Meghan is currently training in Burlington six days a week, practicing three to five hours each day.
Meghan's most recent accomplishment was garnering one of eight spots on a national-bound team in Burlington after a challenging three-week tryout. She will also be swimming a solo for this club.
This past season, Meghan has competed as part of a duet and as a member of a team. With the goal of being the best synchronized swimmer in Ontario, she has something to be especially proud of this year. She won the gold medal in the duet competition at both the provincial championships and at the Ontario Trillium championships. She was also awarded the silver medal for team competition at the Ontario Trillium Competition.
Meghan swam for both the Brantford and the Hamilton synchronized swimming clubs, winning the top figure award three of the four years she swam in Brantford.
Meghan's many accomplishments demonstrate the commitment, determination, and love for the sport. Last season, this proficient athlete even continued to swim despite a torn Achilles tendon, never quitting or letting down her team members.
During this school term, Meghan will be at St. Patrick's School for a co-op placement and she hopes to pursue teaching as a career. Once she chooses not to be a competitive swimmer any longer, Meghan wishes to coach a synchronized swim team of her own.
Congratulations Meghan! |
