Marcus Jones - October 27, 2005
Marcus Jones is in his sixth year with the Brantford Minor Hockey League, playing on their AAA Peewee hockey team and can't wait for the 2005/2006 season to begin.
Since 2003, his team has been Regional Express AAA Hockey International Cup Champions - a title he hopes to bring home again this year. Marcus had a great year in 2001 helping his team win gold at the annual Wayne Gretzky International Tournament, and was named tournament MVP. In 2002 his Novice A hockey team competed at the Alliance Championship and finished in first place – a record they repeated again in 2003.
Marcus has also been playing basketball for the past six years with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and has been on their rep team for the past four years. In 2005 he helped his team finish fifth overall in the province, and was part of a three-on-three team that placed second, at an annual tournament.
During the 2004 season, Marcus' team placed first at the annual Cambridge and Waterloo basketball tournaments and they finished fourth overall in the province. He also participated at summer basketball camps in 2003 and 2005 and was thrilled to receive the Coach's Award.
Marcus has been involved in a variety of other sports at St. Pius School including lacrosse, track and field, cross-country and soccer. In 2002 his tyke house league lacrosse team finished in first place, and he finished second overall in the junior boys cross-country division.
Marcus was named the 2005 Junior Athlete of the Year at St. Pius School, after placing first in all of his track and field events. He also finished second in the 800m at the county meet.
Marcus is a dedicated and hardworking grade six student who was named Student of the Month twice in 2004. He competed in his school's junior speech competition, and finished in third place. He is also a bus patroller at his school this year.
Marcus' plans for the future include becoming a teacher, staying involved in sports and one day playing hockey or basketball at the professional level.
Congratulations Marcus, and good luck! |
