Leah O'Shea - March 31, 2005
Leah O'Shea participates in a variety of sports and her natural ability and positive attitude is what makes her an asset to every team she joins.
For the past four years, Leah has been playing her favourite sport, basketball, she is co-captain and leading scorer of the Brantford Briers Brantview Apples Triple A Major Bantam team, and helped her team move from 46th place to 19th place in the province.
She is the leading scorer of the Banbury Heights Public School Intermediate girls basketball team, and helped them win the county championships this season.
Swimming is another sport that Leah has enjoyed for the past 12 years; she completed her bronze medallion and is working hard to get her bronze cross.
This fourteen-year-old, grade eight student has been scuba diving for three years and completed a junior open water diver with PADI certification through Brantford's Scuba-Tek dive shop.
Leah also participates in several other school sports including badminton, soccer, baseball and volleyball. Her volleyball team brought home the gold medal at the county championships this season. Leah is involved in track and field and participates in the 100 meter, 400 meter, 4x100 meter relay, triple jump and high jump. In 2004, her intermediate relay team was crowned the county champions.
Leah still finds time to referee her school's novice boys' basketball team, and is on her schools student council and yearbook committee. She's at the top of her class with a 95 per cent average, and plans to continue her high academic standings and involvement in sports when she attends North Park in the fall.
