Lauren Chan - October 27, 2005
Lauren Chan has been playing soccer and basketball for the past nine years, and excels in both sports. During the summer, Lauren played on the Ontario basketball team that competed in the National tournament in Calgary, where they finished first, beating British Columbia in the championship game. She was named the top re-bounder at the tournament, and was a big contributor to her team's success. Lauren was also invited to tryout for the U18 Women's basketball team this past spring.
She currently plays on both the Catholic Youth Organization's (CYO) rep team and the St. John's College senior girl's basketball team. She has been playing rep ball with CYO for six years, and during that time has contributed to many silver medal finishes at the Ontario Basketball Association's (OBA) annual tournaments. In grade nine, Lauren played on the St. John's College junior girl's basketball team and was very successful; she received both the basketball award and the Physical education highest standing award.
In 2003, Lauren's CYO rep basketball team was the Major Bantam Division 1 Champions. The team traveled to Moncton, New Brunswick where they competed in the Eastern Canadian Finals and battled their way to a second place finish. The OBA recognized Lauren's talent and sportsmanship by naming her the association's MVP.
Lauren has developed into an excellent soccer player, and during her nine years playing the sport she has achieved many personal bests and team accomplishments. This past season she played with the Brantford Intercity Soccer League U15 team as well as the Midget Development Program Regional (MDP) Tri-County team, for two years. It was her performance in the MDP tournaments that opened the opportunity for Lauren to play on the U15 Provincial team.
Exploring many interests keeps Lauren very busy, and in addition to basketball and soccer, she competes on her school's track and field team and is a member of the SJC student council cabinet. She made the school's honor role by achieving a 93 per cent average in grade nine. Her hard work was recognized with the highest standing award for her efforts in grade nine French. In grade eight, Lauren was honoured to receive the academic and athletic awards when she graduated from St. Bernard's School.
For the past four years, Lauren has competed at the Brantford Kiwanis Festival for voice, placing from third to first place each year. Last year's competition was a great experience for Lauren, and she was thrilled to win a monetary musical theatre scholarship from the competition. She sings with the Hernandez Voice Studio, and plans to continue into the future. In her spare time, she enjoys music, art, skiing, traveling, and reading. After she graduates from high school Lauren plans to continue her education at university and play varsity basketball.
Congratulations Lauren, and good luck! |
