Laura Smith - August 14, 2008
Laura Smith is an eighteen-year-old graduate of Assumption College who has been actively involved in soccer since the age of 5; figure skating since she was two; volleyball for 3 years, and participated in track and field starting in elementary school and continuing through high school.
Laura has received several awards throughout the years including the Female Athlete of the Year in 2006 and 2008; the 2006 Track and Field MVP; the 2005 Most Improved Skating award as well as her Gold skills, freeskate, dance and interpretive awards.
She participated at CWOSSA in track and field all four years at high school; she is a member of a women’s soccer team for Burford Golf Links, she plays summer house league soccer with the under 20 girls; she received the Lions Award in grade 11, and the Lions Letter in grade 12.
Laura was actively involved at her school volunteering on the semi formal committee; she helped with the Relay for Life in 2006 & 2007; she helped plan the 30-hour famine for her school in 2008; and participated at the John Noble Home Valentines Day Outreach.
Laura travelled to Mississippi for a week in April 2008 to help the Katrina hurricane victims build homes and renovate others. She works at the Burford Golf Links and last year was nominated and received the Youth Achievement Award for her involvement with the St. Leonard’s community services.
Laura was on the honor roll all four years at high school, she graduated with an 83% average and received the Mark Dixon Scholarship award at graduation.
This fall she will be attending Laurier University in Waterloo, with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography. She plans to continue her education at teachers college and wants to continue playing recreational sports at University.
