Kristen Riley - September 28, 2006
Kristen Riley is a recent graduate of Pauline Johnson (PJ) who participated and excelled in the sport of gymnastics. She began her gymnastics career when she was only six years old competing competitively from the age of seven to eleven; she started competing again when she entered high school and was involved for all five years that she attended Pauline Johnson.
Kristen received the Most Valuable Member award for gymnastics at her school in 2003, 2005 and 2006. She is an eight-time OFSAA medalist in gymnastics and in 2006 she placed 6th on level 4 floor and 8th on level 4 beam at OFSAA.
She was a member of her school's volleyball team from 2002 to 2006, was captain of her team for the 2004/05 seasons, and received the MVP award for Junior Volleyball in 2002/03.
Kristen was also involved in ultimate Frisbee from 2004 to 2006, and in 2004/05 she participated in both rugby and tennis.
In 2005 she received the Pauline Johnson Spot Light award, an award based on academics, extra curricular and community involvement.
In 2003 she volunteered at the Brantford YMCA coaching gymnastics and is now working at the YMCA. In 2005 she volunteered at the Woodman elementary school helping with the after school homework club, in 2006 she volunteered at the Eastern Gymnastics Championships held in Ancaster and was a minor official at the 2003 OFSAA Gymnastics Competitions held in Brantford.
Kristen was involved in various activities at high school helping to organize and run events for elementary school students who would be attending PJ; she led tours for future students and their parents in 2004/05. She was a member of the PJ athletic club, colour captains, history club and the prom committee.
Throughout her high school career Kristen consistently maintained an average over 90% each year, and graduated with a 92% average. She is an Ontario Scholar, she received the Bison's Alumni scholarship award, and the Jace Hutton Memorial scholarship award.
Kristen is attending McMaster University and is pursuing a career in Kinesiology, where she plans to further her studies to become a physiotherapist.
Kristen would like to thank her family, friends and teachers who have helped her over the years and hopes to achieve her dreams and give back to others in the future.
