Kristen Martin - December 11, 2008
Kristen Martin is an eight-year-old grade 3 student from Cedarland Public School who has been involved in track and field, cross-country and soccer for the past three years.
During the summer she competed at several track and field meets in southern Ontario and won the 800m provincial championships, the shot-put provincial championships and the mite girls cross-country provincial championships.
She enjoys training for track and field with her brother Jacob who won the Brant County Junior Boys Cross Country meet this year and playing football with her oldest brother Luke who won the Brantford Bisons award.
Kristen also enjoyed dancing in powwows throughout the summer placing 4th in the Fancy Shawl category at the Saugeen Powwow, 3rd at the Six Nations Fall Fair Powwow and she competed at the Rogers Centre Powwow in late November.
In October she volunteered to teach smoke dance to high school students attending the Dream Walkers gathering at the Tim Horton's camp in St. George.
She is looking forward to the 2009 soccer season since she will be moving from house league to rep soccer for the first time.
Kristen is a dedicated and hardworking A student who enjoys taking part in her school’s talent show and Christmas pageant. In the future she hopes to attend university on a sports scholarship pursue a career as a teacher and one day become an Olympian.
