Kelly Miller - May 25, 2006
Kelly Miller is a 14 year old, grade nine student at Brantford Collegiate Institute who participates in a variety of sports. Her main sport is running but she also enjoys playing soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball, and wrestling.
Kelly is a member of the BCI cross country team and in 2005 participated in several races in the area. She placed 5th in junior at the Waterloo Chicopee Invitational, 8th in junior at Fanshawe College in London, 3rd in midget at the Hamilton Wildcat Invitational, 1st in midget at the Brant County Secondary School meet and 4th in midget at CWOSSA in Waterloo.
In 2005 she finished 1st in her division at the Brantford Classic Run and this year she placed 2nd in the 14 to 16 age group.
Kelly is a member of the BCI Track & Field Club and this past March finished 3rd in the 3000 metre junior race at the York University Indoor High School meet. She recently participated at the Brant County High School meet placing 1st in the 3000 metre race setting a new record (11.31) and finished 2nd in the 800 metre race.
Kelly has been playing soccer since she was four years old and currently plays on the Frankie's under 15 girls rep. team and will be playing in the Premier division this year. In 2005 her team were finalists in the South Region Soccer league for under 14 girls and were one of the final four teams in the 2005 Disney International Youth Soccer Tournament.
Kelly was the leading scorer for the BCI midget girls basketball team and for the past two years has been involved in a competitive co-ed basketball club. She is also a member of the BCI soccer and badminton teams.
Kelly volunteers at the Why Not City Mission every Saturday and enjoys providing meals, craft activities and companionship to those who need her help. Kelly was head of the Lansdowne School Spirit Committee and coached the school's junior basketball team when she was in grade 8.
She is a dedicated student who works hard to achieve good grades; her favourite subjects are geography and gym. Kelly wants to continue playing soccer, plans to become a competitive runner, and is interested in pursuing a career that will utilize her love of sport in the future.
Kelly would like to thank all her coaches for their support, especially Mrs. Riley. She would also like to thank Katie, Alex and Andrew for introducing her to the world of athletics and for encouraging her along the way.
