John Alex Dabreo - January 10, 2008
John Alex Dabreo is a sixteen-year-old grade 12 student from St. John’s College who has been actively involved in several sports including basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, badminton and golf.
John has been playing CYO basketball for 10 years, rep. basketball for 9 years, and has been a member of the St. Johns College basketball team for 4 years. He played Brantford Intercity Rep. soccer for 7 years, SJC soccer for 1 year, SJC volleyball for 3 years and SJC badminton for 1 year.
John has received several individual awards and team championships over the past few years. He won the CYO Basketball Coaches Award in 2001 and 2004; he won the Ontario Basketball Association’s Hustler Award and the OBA silver medal in 2004, and was the 2005 Player of the Year.
He was captain of the St. John’s College Senior Boys Basketball team that won the Trojan War Basketball tournament; he helped his team win the Brantford Expositor Tip-Off Tournament and was awarded the MVP of the tournament.
John helped the SJC midget basketball team win the 2004/05 BCSAA Championships; he helped the SJC junior basketball team win the 2005/06 BCSAA Championships and they were finalists at CWOSSA. In 2006/07 he helped the SJC basketball team win the Senior BCSSAA Championships.
John is a member of the Dufferin Tennis Club and won several awards including the Under 18 Champion, the Men’s Doubles runner up, and placed 3 rd in Men’s Singles. He was the BCSAA Junior Singles Tennis Champion in 2004 and 2005; he was the Senior Singles Tennis Champion in 2006, and was the runner-up in the 2007 Senior Doubles Tennis Championships.
He helped his team win the BCSSA Soccer Championships in 2006 and was a member of the Brantford Golf & Country Club Inter-Club team that won the championships from 2003 to 2006.
John is a member of the “Green Team” at SJC helping the environment and worked at the North Park Summer Basketball Camp for the past 3 years.
John is a hardworking student who maintains a 90% average and plans to continue his education at Western or McMaster University next year and hopes to play varsity basketball at university.
