Joseph Dalia - October 21, 2004
This week the TCO salutes Heloise Delage as the Athlete of the Week.
The Paris District High School tennis team is boasting some international talent this year. Heloise Delage, a 16 year-old exchange student from France, joined the Panthers' roster, and has had a stellar start to the season.
Heloise hails from Dijon, where she trains three times a week with her tennis coach. She has been playing tennis since she was about eleven years old. To stay on top of her game she plays regular matches against her brothers Gregoire, 12, and Charles, 15. In 2004 she won the 15-16 year old division in her club tournament, and she went on to compete in the county championships, where her team placed second.
Heloise has been in Ontario since mid-August, residing with fellow student Rachel Burnet and her family. Her exchange, coordinated through the Student Exchange Ontario Program, will last three months. While in Canada she practices twice a week with the schools tennis team. Brant County Secondary School competitive play began this month. Heloise played extremely well, blanking all her opponents to earn 6-0 victories in all five of her matches in the girls singles division. Heloise is now looking forward to CWOSSA, where she will represent PDHS.
In addition to tennis, Heloise enjoys running, badminton and go-karting. In 2002 her go-kart racing abilities earned her a trophy. She also enjoys music, and has been playing the piano since the age of 10.
Heloise is a good student with a strong academic record, earning marks in the 80 to 90% range. She has not yet decided her future career goals, but is considering the potential of pursuing studies in medicine, journalism or business. Her immediate goal is to play well for the Paris District High School tennis team at their next tournament, and to continue playing well for her home team in France.
Congratulations Heloise, and good luck! |
