Patrick Bates Jr. - December 15, 2005
Haylee Ives is a dedicated and hardworking 12 year old who excels at track & field and cross-country, and has been involved in both sports for the past three years.
In April 2005 she got serious about her running and joined the Brantford Track and Field Club and started training five days a week. She hired a personal trainer, Todd De Wolfe of 'Jump Start Fitness,' and with his help has gained a much better understanding of the whole process of running including; what to eat, how to warm up and how to get ready mentally for a race. Her efforts are beginning to pay off.
In May 2005 Haylee set the school record and placed first in the 800-metre race, in July at the Brantford Track and Field Club Meet she placed first in the 400 and 1000 metre races.
In August at the Provincials held at York University she was up to the challenge and placed fourth overall in the 400-metre race. Haylee was at the top of her game at a meet in Brampton, where she received a gold ribbon for the 400 metre, two silver ribbons for the 200 and 800 metre races and a bronze ribbon in the 1500 metre.
Haylee has competed in the 3000-metre senior girls cross-country race for the past three years. In 2005 at the County meet she finished first out of 57 other girls, in 2004 she placed third out of 187 girls, and in 2003 she placed seventh out of 200, in the 1500 metre race.
Haylee is also involved in school sports and plays on the basketball and volleyball teams at St. Cecilia's School in Port Dover.
Haylee is very active in her community and is in the midst of coordinating a toy drive for needy children. When asked by her family what she wanted for Christmas this year, she replied that she really didn't need anything and would rather donate two chickens to help a family in Africa. What an inspiration for others!
Haylee is also working with her trainer, Todd DeWolfe, to organize a 5km run that will raise funds for the 'Make a Wish Foundation.'
Haylee has thought about several career options for the future, and is currently thinking she would like to work with NASSA as an astronomer. She is also focusing on her running, and dreams of being part of the Canadian Olympic team that will compete in London, England in 2012.
Congratulations Haylee, and good luck! |
