Geordie Collins - May 1, 2003
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Geordie Collins a sixteen year-old grade 11 student from Brantford Collegiate Institute who participants in several sports. Since beginning high school in 2000 Geordie has been on the basketball, volleyball, and rugby teams. He also participates in track & field in the shot put, discus and hurdles.
In 2000-2001 Geordie won the MVP award for midget boys basketball, was a member of the midget boys rugby championship team, and won the male Athlete of the Year in grade 9.
In 2001-2002 he won the MVP award for the junior boys volleyball team, was a member of the CWOSSA championship boys rugby team and played rugby on the Brantford Harlequins rugby team. Geordie was selected for the 2003 British Rugby tour taken by BCI and won the Man of the Match for the Amman game.
During the summer of 2001 he was chosen the senior boys champion at the Bruce Beach sports day.
Geordie worked with the tennis pro at the Dufferin Tennis Club helping with lessons for two summers and was a volunteer coach for the Lansdowne School's basketball team in 2001-2002.
He participated twice in the Kokanee 24 Hours of Adrenaline endurance mountain bike event to help raise funds for the Diabetes Foundation and when he graduated from Lansdowne School in 1999-2000 he won the Citizenship award.
Geordie's personal goal is to become an underwater welder and travel around the world.
