Evan McDonald - February 10, 2005
A Grade 9 student at Brantford Collegiate Institute (BCI), Evan has made a name for himself as an impressive badminton player. He took up the sport four years ago with the Brantford Junior Badminton Club. Today he continues to play for the club, and is also a member of his BCI's badminton team.
2004 was an excellent year for Evan. In April he was a singles finalist for a national level tournament, held at Toronto's Boulevard Club. In November Evan continued his success, showing versatility, with impressive finishes in doubles play. He and partner Joey Vandervet took second place in the main round at a tournament held in Woodstock, Ontario. Evan and his mixed doubles partner, Amy Steiner, captured the C division title at an adult's tournament, held at the Stratford Badminton Club.
When he isn't busy on the badminton court, Evan finds time to pursue another of his favourite pastimes, soccer. Evan has been playing soccer for 11 years, taking part in both indoor and outdoor leagues. He and his teammates from the Burford Mustangs were victorious in the 2001-2002 season, winning the indoor soccer championship title for their division. Currently, he is on the roster of the Brantford Under 16 rep soccer team.
Evan is a strong student. His immediate goal is to continue improving in his academic and athletic pursuits, and to pursue more opportunities in sports. In the future, he would like to attend university and study veterinary medicine.
Congratulations Evan and good luck! |
