Evan Horne - September 3, 2009
Evan Horne is a nine-year-old grade 4 student from St. Gabriel’s Catholic School who is actively involved in hockey as a goalie, and plays defense in soccer and ball hockey.
He has been participating in hockey since 2005, he played one-year house league making the select team and helped them win the 2006 Woodstock Hockey Tournament.
Evan has received numerous individual hockey awards over the past few years including the Most Improved Player for the Brantford 99ers Minor Novice Team in 2006/07; MVP at the 2007 Toronto Bad Boyz Tournament; MVP at the 2008 Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament; Sportsmanship award at the Flint Michigan Tournament in 2008; MVP at the 2008 Top Gun Hockey Tournament in Amherst; the Most Dedicated award at the Rick Heinz Goalie School and he won six Player of the Game awards.
Evan played for the Barrie Colts AAA team that went to Portland Maine this summer and won the championship against Chicago in overtime 3-2. He had to make a penalty stop in overtime for his team to go on and finally win with 38.6 seconds left in the game.
He played for the Toronto Bulldogs AAA team during the spring of 2009 in four tournaments winning the Toronto Bad Boyz Tournament, the OTTF Spring Classic Tournament and they were finalist in the Ronald McDonald Tournament (in triple overtime).
Evan also played for the Brantford Major Novice 99ers during the winter of 2008/09; they won the 2008 Burlington Lions Hockey Tournament and were finalist in the 2009 Preston International Hockey Tournament.
He played for the Toronto Bulldogs AAA team and won the 2008 King of the Rings Tournament; he was a member of the Ontario Bulldogs AAA team that went to Portland Maine during the summer of 2008 that were finalists; he played in the 2008 Regional Express and won the Regional Showdown; and his Brantford Minor Novice 99ers team were finalist in the Bob Stark Hockey Tournament held in London during the winter 2007/08.
Evan played house league soccer in 2005 and 2006; his under 7 rep soccer Cool Creek Farms team were finalists in the 2007 Tillsonburg under 8 division soccer tournament; his MJ rep soccer under 8 Sonnenhof Falcons team were undefeated during the 2008 season, placing 1st in the league; his MJ rep soccer under 9 Sonnenhof Falcons team are undefeated this summer.
He has been involved in ball hockey for the past two years and has contributed to the success of his teams. The B-Town Bandits were finalists at the 2008 Canada Day tournament; the Brantford Lions team were finalists at the 2009 Civic Holiday tournament and they won the championships at the 2009 Welland tournament.
Evan is a dedicated and hardworking student who achieves A’s and B’s and received Academic Achievement and Citizenship awards. He also participated in the SPCA walk a thon.
He wants to get involved with school teams this year and would like to play soccer, track and field, cross country, and basketball. He would also like to help coach grades 1 to 3 intramural soccer team.
Evan would like to continue to get good grades in school so he can attend university in the future and become a lawyer.
