Erika Gardiner - March 19, 2009
Erika Gardiner is a seventeen-year-old grade 11 student from Brantford Collegiate Institute who is actively involved in soccer and basketball. She started playing soccer in 1996 at the age of four joining a rep team in 2003 and began playing basketball at the age of 10.
Erika is an active member of her school’s soccer team and plays for the Brantford Intercity Soccer rep team; she played basketball at school and was involved with Briers basketball from 2002 to 2004. She played a variety of sports in elementary school winning many first place ribbons in cross country and track and field, and helped both the soccer and basketball teams win the county finals.
She plays for the Brantford Bobcats BICS U17 Girl's Elite team, her position is goalie, and she is a member of the BCI girl’s soccer and basketball teams.
Erika has received several individual and team awards over the years including the 2004 South Region Soccer League Ontario Cup with BICS; the 2006 MVP Player's Choice Award with BICS rep soccer; the 2008 MVP Award for BCI soccer; the Defense Award for BCI Girl's Basketball in 2007-2008, and the Phyllis Gretzky Memorial Award for Female Youth Leadership in January 2009.
She is an active member of her school’s concert band, and jazz band, she participated in the school musical production Oliver in grade 9, Oklahoma in grade 10, and Beauty and the Beast this year. She was a member of the
Rendezvous for Learning French Reading Program last year and volunteered at the Brantford Soccer Classic for several years
Erika is a dedicated and hardworking student who has been on the honor roll since grade 9 and currently has a 90% average. In the future she plans to continue her education by attending University and hopes to play soccer at the varsity level.
