Erica Pate - May 22, 2008
Erica Pate is a fifteen-year-old grade 10 student from Brantford Collegiate Institute who has been actively involved in swimming for 11 years, competitively for the past 6 years.
She is a member of the W. Ross MacDonald Swim Club supported by Brantford Swimming. She participates in track and field and cross-country at her school, she played hockey for 4 years and participated in soccer for a number of years.
In 2006 Erica qualified for Provincials in swimming and in 2007 she qualified in her age group for Nationals and Westerns. Erica qualified for provincials and Age Group Nationals this year and will be competing at Age Group Nationals in Calgary this summer.
Erica won the Brant County Junior Girls Cross Country in grade 10; she finished in 3rd place at CWOSSA and then competed at OFSSA. She hopes to qualify for OFSSA again next year. Recently she placed 1st at BCSSA in the 1500m, 2nd in the 800m and will now move on to CWOSSA.
Erica volunteers at the Participation House Ghost Encounter’s Haunted Hayrides and helps coach junior swimmers once a week. She has been taking piano lessons for 7 years and is currently working on her grade 8 level. This year she placed 2nd at the Kiwanis music festival for grade 8.
Erica is a dedicated and hardworking student who achieved an 87% average at midterm. In the future she hopes to maintain good grades and qualify for the senior nationals in swimming.
