Dean Donovan - November 25, 2004
This week's TCO Athlete of the Week is Dean Donovan.
Dean Donovan plays countless sports, and judging by his records and awards, there's no sport he isn't good at.
Hockey is one of his favourites, and this 15-year-old has been ripping up the ice for roughly ten years. He has a love of the game and has been on the Paris rep. team since 1996, with many tournament and individual awards, and was a member of both back-to-back OMHA Paris Championship teams in 2002 and 2003.
Golf is another sport where he excels, and Dean was the recipient of the 'Oaks of St. George' scholarship program for the 2004 season, after playing for only five years. Dean is no slouch at soccer, and has been proving his skills as a member of the Paris rep team since 1994. With this team, Dean has won several league championships, tournament championships and MVP awards.
Dean has been on the Paris rep baseball team since 2002, and was also a member of the Paris Bantam All Ontario Hardball Championship team in 2002. Before this, he played softball with a Paris team, and in 2000, Dean received the Brantford 'AAA' hardball Rookie of the Year Award.
He also plays countless sports at Paris District High School, including cross country, volleyball, rugby, track and field, where at the BCSSAA's he placed first in javelin, second in the high jump and third in pole vaulting in the 2003/2004 season.
Amazingly, Dean still finds time to maintain his average above 80 per cent and has been on the honour role since grade seven. He hopes to one day attend college to take an apprenticeship and continue his success in the numerous sports that he enjoys playing.
Congratulations Dean, and good luck! |
