David Locke - February 6, 2003
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is David Locke a 13 year-old grade 8 student from Ryerson Public School who excels in both hockey and soccer. David plays goal for the St. George Generals Bantam A rep. team and won an MVP award at the 2002 Wayne Gretzky International tournament and again at the 2003 Walter Gretzky tournament.
Last season he won 3 MVP awards at the Walter Gretzky House League tournament when he filled in as goalie for a Cambridge team and in 2001 David and his family hosted 2 goalies from Finland who attended the Wayne Gretzky International tournament.
David has been playing house league soccer since he was 5 years old and has received MVP awards for the past three years; he plays for the Brantford Inter-City boys under 14 rep. soccer team. He received a letter of congratulations from MPP Dave Levac to recognize his contributions for his soccer team with an undefeated season in 2002.
David has 18 trophies and 20 medallions for hockey and 10 trophies and 25 medallions for soccer. He is also very involved in school sports and in 2002 helped his teams win the Brant County volleyball championships, the Brant
County soccer Championships, and played on both his school's baseball and basketball teams.
David is the sports editor for his school paper, helps coach his sister's soccer team, maintains a good average in school and his dream is to one day become a professional athlete.
