Dante Dalia - January 15, 2004
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Dante Dalia, a 16-year-old Grade 11 student at St. John's College.
Dante's love of sports started at a young age: he began playing CYO basketball at age five, and has been playing ever since then, now with the CYO traveling team. He also joined St. John's team in Grade 9 and continues to play.
With his collection of MVP awards, Dante hope to continue playing basketball at the post-secondary level.
Soccer has also been a passion for Dante. He has been playing since he was 5 years old, and is currently on the boy's senior soccer team at St. John's. His passion led him to play on a Brantford rep soccer team.
This terrific athlete has also found time to play badminton, and participate in track and field for his school, all the while maintaining an 80 per cent grade average.
Dante's altruistic nature is shown in his volunteer work that includes three years of coaching younger kids at CYO basketball and a number of years refereeing.
Dante's volunteer efforts aren't limited to sports. He tutors at school, works with St. Vincent de Paul, and Habitat for Humanity. He has even gone outside of the community to participate in a numbers of missions.
With strategy learned playing chess for St. John's over the past three years, Dante will continue to persevere with his many activities, sports and otherwise.
Congratulations Dante. |
