Crystal Oakes - May 26, 2005
Crystal Oakes has been part of the basketball scene at Paris District High School for the past five years; she was captain of her team in 2002 and captain of the senior girls' team this season. She also played on the Norfolk Nets basketball team, for two years.
Badminton is another sport that she enjoys playing and has represented her school well for the past five years. She recently finished 2nd place in doubles at BCSSA helping her team place 3rd overall at the tournament. In grade 12, she was recognized as the Most Dedicated player on her badminton team.
For the past four years, she has been a strong competitor on her school's track and field team. Her team won the 2004 County Championships, and she helped contribute to that title with a 2nd place finish in discus and a 3rd place finish in javelin. In grade 11, Crystal was thrilled to be recognized as the team's Most Dedicated athlete.
She has been part of her school's tennis team for four years, she finished 2nd at BCSSA, and was honoured to receive the Coach's Award this year.
Crystal has enjoyed playing rugby for the past three years, in 2004 she was captain of her school's team, and was part of the Brantford Harlequins Under 19 team that finished first place in the Niagara Region. She played one year of soccer at Burford District High School and ten years with the Burford Optimists baseball league.
It's no surprise that Crystal is the Vice President of her school's Athletic Committee since she has been so involved in school sports over the years. She is a volunteer musician at school events and helps out at local wrestling tournaments.
Crystal is a member of her church's Christian Youth Group and was a 30-hour famine participant. She volunteered for two years at the Burford Skating Club and has a NCCP Level 1 coaching certificate to her credit.
This grade 12, straight-A student is looking forward to attending Mohawk College in the fall participating in the Recreation and Leisure program and she plans to try out for the school's basketball team. Crystal celebrated her 19th birthday on May 20, her family and friends wish her all the best in the future – Happy Birthday and good luck! |
