Cozette Collin - February 26, 2009
Cozette Collin is a thirteen-year-old grade 8 student from St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary School who has been participating in cross-country for 4 years, track and field for 4 years, and both basketball and the running club for 1 year.
In May 2007 she was 2nd for the Junior Girls and lead her team to a first place finish over the past two years. In May 2008 she placed 1st in 100m, 400m, 800m, running long jump and 2nd in the high jump at her school’s track and field meet and she was 1st at the Senior Girls Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board City Cross Country Meet in May 2008.
In June 2008 Cozette received the BHNCDSB Senior Girls Individual Champion Track and Field Award and finished 1st in the 400m, 800m and running long at the city meet.
She has been a member of Brantford Track and Field Club since early 2008. She has competed in several events throughout the spring and summer with the Minor Track and Field Association and is currently training and competing in indoor track and field events.
In July 2008 Cozette was 2nd in the 800m at the Ontario Provincial Championships in Oshawa with a personal best of 2.28 and she was 1st in the 400m with a personal best of 1:03 at Hershey Track and Field Qualifier Track Meet. At a provincial qualifier track meet in Brampton this past summer she won gold in the 400m, gold in the 800m and silver in standing long jump.
Cozette participated in the local Brantford Classic 5km race in May 2008 and placed 2nd in her division. She has been involved with CYO house league basketball for 4 years; she won the Sportsmanship Award in 2004 and was a member of the CYO AA basketball team in 2007-2008. She is currently a member of the under 14 Brant Tornadoes OVA Brant Volleyball Team.
Over the past several years Cozette along with her younger sister has raised money in the support of the local Brantford SPCA. She enjoys school and is an excellent student who maintains high grades.
Cozette plans to continue participating in volleyball, cross-country and track and field when she attends high school next year. She also hopes to beat her personal best times in the upcoming track and field season and obtain a university athletic scholarship for track and field in the future.
