Athlete of the Week - 2005

    Courteney Brown - March 24, 2005

Courteney Brown is a grade 11 student at Paris District High School and has been playing her favourite sport, soccer, for the past nine years.

Courteney has been involved in a soccer house league program for seven years, and has been a member of the Brantford travel under-16 and under-18 teams for the past two years. Her under-16 team won the premier division league cup championships. Last season Courteney played on the Paris District High School soccer team, and is planning to try out again this year.

She has been playing volleyball for Paris District High for the past three years, and in grade nine her team clinched the BCSSAA Championships, and Courteney won the MVP award. This year was her first year playing with the Ontario Volleyball Association and she hopes to continue with the team next season.

Courteney enjoys playing high school badminton, and had so much fun playing last year that she's planning to try out again this season. She ran track in grades nine and ten and competed in the 100m, 80m hurdles, 4x100 and 4x400 relays, the long and triple jump, and shot put.

Courteney picked up the sport of basketball in grade nine, and has been on her school's team every year since. In her first year at Paris District High School Courteney was recognized with a red letter 'A' for her overall contributions and involvement on various athletic teams.

Courteney coached a grades 5-6 soccer team, is involved with the Paris High School's athletic committee, is on the senior guidance council, is a leader for a local kids church group, volunteers at the Apps Mill Maple Syrup Festival leading group tours and cooking pancakes, and volunteered as a scorekeeper for both volleyball and basketball.

She is a hardworking student who is involved in a Community Environmental Leadership program and her favourite subjects are biology and French. Courteney is an avid bird enthusiast and plans to study ornithology (the study of birds) at university or college, and hopes to one day become a naturalist or teacher.

    Congratulations Courteney, and good luck!
