In February 1999, the Province of Ontario transferred the responsibility for the administration and prosecution of provincial offences to municipalities. As a result, in October 2000, the City of Brantford was required to set up a Provincial Offences Court Office to deal with charges laid under the Provincial Offences Act in the Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations area.
Most Provincial Offences charges result in out-of-court fine payments. Residents who are issued a ticket under the Provincial Offences Act by the OPP, Brantford Police and Six Nations Police should read it carefully for a complete list of payment and trial options.
