Christopher Taverner - January 8, 2004
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Christopher Taverner, a 20-year-old student at Tollgate Technical School.
Christopher loves to play a variety of sports both on his school teams, and with the Ontario Special Olympics. He is an excellent example of sportsmanship, and particularly enjoys the opportunity to play the game, whichever one that may be.
This athlete has shown a special ability to welcome new team members and act as a mentor. He has guided his teammates and helped by actually working with them.
Christopher is on the Tollgate school team for badminton, softball, and floor hockey. He won the 2000 floor hockey award, the 2002 floor hockey award, and the 2003 softball "C" team award.
With the Ontario Special Olympics, Christopher has played floor hockey, basketball and softball. Most recently, with the help and ability of this outstanding athlete, his softball team won a tournament in Stratford. Christopher was aptly named athlete of the year for softball.
He has won many other ribbons and medals through sports. However, Christopher's joy is in participating.
Christopher is an active community volunteer, helping the elderly with outdoor chores, assisting in grounds clean up at W. Ross Macdonald School, and working with the recycling group at Tollgate.
Congratulations Christopher. |
