Chris Vansickle - March 9, 2006
Chris Vansickle is a focused 16 year-old who is very active in sports and over the years has become an elite soccer player. Chris played several sports in public school including; soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball, badminton, track & field and in grade 8 received the Male Athlete of the Year.
Chris has been involved in soccer for the past six years, in 2002 his under13 house league team were playoff Champions and his under 13 rep. team won the 2001/02 Ontario Indoor Soccer League Division Championships. He was also part of the under 13 rep. team that qualified for the North American National Indoor Soccer Championships in Ohio, by winning the National Indoor qualifying tournament.
In 2002 his under 13 select soccer team were finalists at the Shawn Guest Tournament, in 2003 his under 14 team were finalists at the AC Douglas Tournament, they won the Stratford Festival Cup and he was awarded the tournament MVP. In 2004 his under 15 select team won the Walter Kirchner, Woodstock tournament, he was awarded the tournament MVP, and they were finalists at the St. Thomas tournament. In 2005 his under 15 team were finalists at the Brantford Soccer Classic and during the summer Chris coaches a under 7 girls soccer team.
When Chris first started high school he was introduced to two new sports football and rugby.
He started playing junior football and excelled as a punter and place kicker but was also a great asset at tight end. In 2004/05 Chris helped his team win the BCSSAA Junior Football Championships and received the Most Improved Player award.
Chris has since stepped up to play senior football and has become a great defensive player as well as a punter. Chris also helps coach the junior BCI football punters and place kickers, after his own practices or before games
This season Chris has decided to play two sports soccer and rugby. Rugby is a sport that Chris truly loves to play and it shows on the field. During the 2004/05 season he helped his high school team set a winning record of 21-0; they were successful in winning the BCSSAA, CWOSSA and OFSSA Championships.
Chris has been training hard everyday preparing for the rugby tour that the BCI senior rugby team is taking to Wales, England and Scotland to compete against international rugby teams.
Chris is a grade 11 student who is very serious about his academics and currently maintains an above 80% average. He goal for the future is to receive a scholarship somewhere in North America and continue both his academic and athletic careers.
Chris would like to thank coaches Dave Giancola and Bob Boos for their guidance and support throughout his high school athletic career. He would also like to thank Mr. Yelle from Dufferin School for his academic guidance and support.
