Chris Manning - July 6, 2006
Chris Manning is a 14-year-old athlete who enjoys participating in several sports and his favourite is swimming. At the age of six he began swimming with the Brantford Aquatic Club, has been part of their competitive program for the past five years, and is a member of the North Park swim team.
He holds several records at the Brantford Aquatic Club including the 11-12 year old 50m Freestyle, the 11-12 year old 50m Butterfly, and the 13-14 year old 50m Butterfly. In 2005 he finished 5th in the 50m Freestyle at Club Nationals in Winnipeg, he was the High Point Male at the Pointe Claire Invitational swim meet in December 2005, and won the Top Age Group Award for the top 10 swim times in Canada, for the past three years.
In April 2006 he won a silver medal in the 50m Freestyle, a bronze medal in the 100m, he was 5th in the 200m Freestyle and 8th in the 100m Butterfly at the Division 1 Team Championships. Chris will be traveling to Calgary to compete at Age Group Nationals meet at the end of July.
Chris was a member of the North Park volleyball team, he played soccer for ten years with the Brantford Youth Soccer League, he played flag football with the Brantford Flag Football League for three years and won the Most Sportsmanlike Football Player award in 2004. He also enjoys teaching young swimmers at the Learn to Swim Program for the Brantford Aquatic Club.
Chris is an honor roll student who will be entering grade 10 this fall and already has several personal goals for the future. He hopes to win a medal at the Age Group Nationals; he plans to earn a scholarship from the University of B.C. or from a US University studying engineering or finance, and his long-term goal is to swim for Canada in the 2012 Olympics.
Chris would like to thank all his teachers and coaches that have helped in over the years, especially his swim coach Mike Finch who has been a wonderful mentor and friend. He also wants to thank his parents for their dedication and support.
