Chauntelle Legere - February 23, 2006
Chauntelle Legere is a highly motivated athlete who has been involved in gymnastics for the past nine years. She began competing at the competitive level at the age of nine.
Each year she prepares for three provincial qualifying events held throughout Ontario and has placed in the top six every year, which has allowed her to represent the Central Region team at the provincial championships. One of her most memorable experiences was when she traveled to Romania for a gymnastics competition.
Chauntelle placed third overall in the first qualifying meet in Collingswood over the Christmas break, despite dropped her training hours to only 12 hours a week. She placed 1st on beam, 2nd on vault, 3rd on floor and 6th on bars. She currently competes at level 8 with 9 as the highest level. Chauntelle is also a member of the St. Johns College power squad and practices two mornings per week.
Chauntelle is a true leader and is dedicated to helping other athletes at the Brantford Gymnastics Academy. She has a rigorous coaching schedule training young athletes who have entered into the sport of gymnastics. She enjoys volunteering and has helped visually impaired athletes participate in recreational activities at the School for the Blind, she helped at minor baseball tournaments and served meals at the Paris Curling Club.
Chauntelle has completed her level one coaching for gymnastics and will continue to take the necessary levels, which will give her the opportunity to coach higher levels of gymnasts.
Chauntelle is a sixteen-year-old grade 11 student at St Johns College who plans to continue her education at university with hopes of becoming a primary teacher.
