Charmaine Pennings - May 12, 2005
Charmaine Pennings is a grade 12 student from Paris District High School and for the past four years has been involved in a variety of sports. She was captain of the senior girls' volleyball team this year, and helped her team win the County Champions, for three consecutive years.
She enjoys playing softball and is kept busy by participating on three different teams. She is a member of the St. George Ladies Softball League, the Hamilton District Christian Ladies Softball League and the Christian Tournament softball team.
In grade 10 Charmaine was awarded the MVP award for both the St. George and Hamilton District softball teams, and received the award again in grade 11 for her play in the Hamilton District league.
She is an excellent runner and finished first in the 100-meter relay, first in the javelin and second in the 200-meter race at the County Championships. Charmaine competed at OFSSA and in grade 10 she received the Most Dedicated Athlete award. She was a cross-country County Champion and competed at CWOSAA.
During her years at PDHS, Charmaine was part of the Athletic Committee and a volunteer timer/scorer at athletic events and elementary school track and field meets.
Charmaine is always helping out her community through peer coaching in both baseball and volleyball. She is an active member of her Christian Youth Group, volunteers as a babysitter during church events, is a volunteer at the Avenue Medial Centre, participates in community clean-ups, organized pot-luck meals, and helped raise money for the Hoops for Heart event.
Charmaine is currently in grade 12 and maintains a B+ average; she has applied to Mohawk College for the Recreation and Leisure program and hopes to play for the Mohawk College volleyball team.
