Chantique Payne - January 24, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Chantique Payne a grade 7 student at Ecole Fairview public school and a member of the Brantford Aquatic Club. Chantique recently competed at the Region of Waterloo Invitational Swim meet and won first place in the 200 metre backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 individual medley and placed 2nd in the 200 metre freestyle. She has medalled in every swim meet she has attended since the start of the season in September 2001. Changtique is 12 years old, trains six days a week, and still finds time to volunteer with the swim school programs. She won the Gordon Prime Award for a junior swimmer who demonstrates dedication, perseverance and enthusiasm. She is also a member of the Briers Basketball house league program and enjoys playing the piano. She is an excellent student and is involved with her school's spirit squad, choir, lunchroom monitor, and library helper. Chantique's next big challenge is the Ontario Junior Provincial Championships hosted here in Brantford at the end of February.
