Carrie Hayhurst - August 24, 2006
Carrie Hayhurst is a 12-year-old student from Brier Park Public School who has been playing darts for the past 3 years and is a member of the Brantford Youth Darts League.
Carrie finished in first place at the Provincial Youth Darts Championships held in St. Catharine's this past March. She played in the junior level even though she is still a tyke; Carrie was the youngest female to win a Provincial title.
She was selected to play on the Ontario Team and participated at the Canadian Championships held in Saskatchewan this past May. She placed 1st in the Jr. Girls singles making her the youngest female to win a National title.
Carrie and her sister Sarah also placed 2nd in the Jr. Girls doubles and it was believed that it was the first time that sisters had been in the same category on the same team. Team Ontario went on to win the Canada Cup for the 14th year in a row.
Carrie also enjoys playing soccer and has been involved in house league since she was 4 years old. For the past 4 years she has been playing on an All-Star team and this year was part of an under 14 girls select team.
She has been on several school teams including soccer, badminton and track and field. She has been a safety patroller for the past 2 years, and was an office helper at her school. Carrie is a hardworking student who maintains a 75% average and is looking forward to entering grade 8 this fall.
Carrie hopes she will be chosen to play for the Ontario Darts Team again next year and would also like to play on a select soccer team next season.
