Carolyn Innes - June 30, 2005
During her four years of high school, Carolyn Innes played basketball, volleyball, tennis, track and field, badminton, rugby, and cross country. In 2001/02 at Burford District High School Carolyn received MVP awards for her outstanding contributions to both the junior girls' basketball team and the junior girls' badminton team.
In 2002 Carolyn transferred to Paris District High School and was thrilled to receive the Most Dedicated Player award for the junior tennis team and the Most Improved Player award for the junior badminton team. She was also named the Most Dedicated Player on her school's track and field team and the following year she won the Track Warrior award. In 2003 Carolyn's tough play on the rugby field won her the Most Dedicated Player award along with the Year Three Award for her contributions to her school's sports teams.
In her final year of high school Carolyn was part of the senior girls' volleyball team who took home the gold, becoming County Champions in 2005. She had a great time participating in the PDHS Relay for Life and enjoyed being a member of the school's Athletic Committee. In 2002 Carolyn acted as a liaison for the BDHS Celebration Committee.
Although sports has been a big part of Carolyn's life, she has also maintained an incredible average throughout high school and has many awards to prove it. In grade nine alone she received the Brian's Place Award for Proficiency in Science, the Priscilla Brown Memorial Award for the Top Achieving Geography student, the Eric Irving Memorial Beauti-tone Paint Award for Proficiency in Academic English, the Burford Industrial Maintenance Award for Art, the Medical Arts Centre Award for Proficiency in French, and the Royal Canadian Legion Award for General Proficiency in grade nine.
Carolyn continued to achieve top marks in grade ten, being awarded the David Moore Art Prize, History Award, Mike Foster Memorial Award, Paris Optimist Club Scholarship (first place in grade ten), and the Hellenic Community of Brantford Award. Grade eleven brought even more top honours, with Carolyn receiving the David Moore Art Prize, Home Hardware - Paint and Home Products Division Award, Biology Award (university, grade 11), and the Paris Optimist Club Scholarship (second place in grade 11).
Carolyn volunteered at the Burford Fall Fair with the Burford Agricultural Society, and in the summer she is involved as a referee with the Burford Soccer league. She also enjoys playing in the Burford Optimist slo-pitch league and the Burford soccer league.
Carolyn is very excited to start pursuing her goal of becoming a veterinarian and this fall she will attend the University of Guelph, in the Bachelor of Science program. After receiving her degree she then hopes to be admitted to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the Ontario Veterinary College. As a doctor of veterinary medicine, she is determined to work with horses at an equine clinic and one day hopes to open a clinic at her family farm.
Congratulations Carolyn, and good luck! |
