Carlee White - October 02, 2003
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Carlee White, a 14-year-old Grade 9 student at Pauline Johnson, and a member of their junior basketball team.
Carlee is a very active individual who played every sport at her former school, Branbury Heights. In her last year, she had much to contribute as an athlete and a student.
At the school track and field meet, Carlee won gold in triple jump and in the 800-metre, and took home silver for the 100-metre. She went on to win gold for the triple jump at the Brant County meet, and placed fourth in the 800-metre. Her relay team relied on her while she ran the second heat of the 4x100m; she succeeded in bringing them to victory.
Also while at Branbury, Carlee was on the basketball, slo-pitch, badminton, volleyball and soccer teams.
She played guard on the basketball team, and helped her team finish second in the city finals. Her slo-pitch team came in first place for the 2003-2003 season, while Carlee was recognized as the winning pitcher. The badminton team also benefited from this terrific athlete's contribution and finished second in the regional competition.
Carlee was a member of all star Brantford Ladies Minor Softball - she was the novice team catcher and played second base. Her team won the provincial qualifier and placed an amazing fifth at the provincial championship.
Carlee's athletic abilities earned her the honour of being the co-captain of the Briers major bantam basketball team. In Windsor, at the division three championships, the team received gold for an overtime win. The team also placed third at the London Jaguars Tournament, where Carlee was awarded MVP.
At the provincial championships, our outstanding athlete scored 48 points, 30 of which were 3-pointers. The team advanced to the quarterfinals.
Carlee volunteers her spare time with the Briers house league as a referee, in the atom division. Upon graduating from Grade 8, she was given the proficiency award for the highest average, and the communication award for English. She also takes piano lessons and is currently at the Grade 8 level of the Royal Conservatory. |
