Brooke Welsh - March 14, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Brooke Welsh a grade 2 student from Branlyn Public School who participates in both hockey and judo. Brooke is 8 years old and started playing hockey at the age of 3 as the youngest player in the Brantford Girls' Hockey Association. Her position is goalie and she plays both house league and rep. hockey and last season helped her team win both the league and playoff championships. She won the Heart and Soul Award last season, won a skill competition last December and recently won the MVP during a game in the Walter Gretzky tournament. Brooke also participates in judo and has already won several awards over the past couple of years. She won a 1st place in the 2000 Ontario School Championships, a gold medal at a 2000 Junior Novice tournament, in 2001 a silver medal at a Junior Novice tournament and in 2002 a gold medal at a Junior Novice tournament. Brooke has also participated in t-ball, basketball, bowling and intramural sports at Branlyn. She is an excellent student and her dream is to someday play for Team Canada's Women's hockey team.
