Brittany Brown - July 31, 2003
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Brittany Brown, who recently graduated from Paris District High School with a 95 per cent average. Her most recent accomplishment was receiving the Bisons Alumni award, which recognizes the most outstanding athletic and academic female in Brant County.
Brittany has been playing ringette at the AA level since she was in Grade 4. In 2002, she was ranked among the top 25 players in Ontario. Also in 2002, as a member of the AAA regional team, she participated in the Ontario Winter Games capturing two medals. This season saw Brittany's AA Waterloo ringette team win a provincial silver medal and a national bronze medal.
Brittany has played on her high school volleyball, track and field, cross-country, and hockey teams, winning two county titles for cross-country and two county titles in the 1500-metre event. She was also a silver medalist for hockey and a CWOSSA semi-finalist. She is currently serving as volunteer coach for the Brantford Special Olympics track and field team and, in addition to organizing and running practices, and attending track meets, she is also planning a track meet in Brantford.
Brittany worked at the Paris Library during high school, and is currently working at the Lansdowne Children's Centre helping children with special needs. She will be attending McMaster University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor of Health Science.
She has participated in many different community events to raise money for charity and has been an active volunteer. Additionally, Brittany was a member of the junior guidance council, sat on the social committee in her final year along with being a member of the school newspaper and yearbook committee.
