This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Brittany Beedham, an 18-year-old grade 12 student at Paris District High School.
Brittany's main sports interest is volleyball. She has been an active member of the Brant Youth Volleyball Club since grade seven, and won the award of excellence in 2000 and 2002. Over the years her high school volleyball team has won several County championships, finishing first this season and 2nd at CWOSSA.
Brittany also competes in other school sports including tennis, track and field, basketball, badminton, and soccer. In badminton she finished 4th in mixed doubles, in tennis she finished 2nd in mixed doubles, her school soccer team competed at CWOSSA last season, and in track and field she competed in the discus, triple jump and the 4 x 100 relay at CWOSSA.
She has been involved in soccer since she was five years old and helped her team win the league championships four out of the past five years; she played tier 1 baseball in Cambridge and currently plays on a team in Princeton.
Brittany has won several awards over the years including Female Athlete of the Year in grade 8, MVP for tri-sport (soccer, volleyball and basketball) at the Olympia Sports camp, team champions twice for tri-sport, most improved player for basketball, MVP for volleyball and Miss Heart for volleyball.
She participated in the 2000 International Children's Games in volleyball and won the Catholic Women's league award in grade 9 for team spirit and dedication.
Brittany still finds time to help coach youth soccer in the summer, house league volleyball, and is currently helping a team of girls who will be competing in the 2004 International Children's Games this summer in Cleveland. She is also a certified volleyball referee.
She is secretary on the Students Council, was an exchange student for two months in Belgium last year, and still maintained an average last semester of 91%.
