Brent Hurley - June 5, 2008
Brent Hurley is a nineteen-year-old grade 13 student from Pauline Johnson Collegiate who is actively involved in hockey, soccer, football, golf and roller hockey.
Brent has been involved in hockey since the age of 3 playing all levels from house league to AA, and has been a member of the varsity high school team for the past 4 years. He has received numerous individual and team awards over the past several years including the Tri-Cities League Championships; the Lake Placid CAN/AM Tournament; he was MVP several times at the Gretzky Tournament; he was leading scorer, assistant captain and won the Hard Hat award at PJ.
Brent has been active in soccer since the age of 4 playing house league to rep, and has been a member of his high school team for 5 years. He has received numerous team and individual soccer awards including Bell City Tournaments, league championships, playoff finalists, league leading scorer and was co-captain of the 2007/08 PJ team.
Brent has been involved in golf since the age of 5, playing on school varsity teams for 4 years. He was a runner-up in the club championships at Arrowdale in 2003 and 2004; he was club champion at the Oaks of St. George in 2005, and was MVP at school in 2005/06.
He played roller hockey from age 8 to 14 playing house league to rep, winning 2 league championships, 4 tournaments, participating in the Provincial Championships and was captain of three teams.
Brent played football for high school teams in 2006 and 2007; he played defensive back/safety. His team won the league championship in 2006 and were CWOSSA finalists; and league finalists in 2007.
He was also active in volleyball, baseball, badminton, track and field, and cross country in elementary school winning many awards including multiple county championships.
Brent has been a member of his school’s athletic council throughout high school. He helped referee at several elementary school sports over the past three years. He was chosen to represent his school at the HOBY Leadership camp and volunteered at Northridge Junior golf camps for the past 3 years.
Brent is a dedicated student who has been on the honor roll every year since grade 7. He will be attending Laurentian University next year studying Sports Administration. He was awarded the Leadership Award from Laurentian for outstanding leadership skills and plans to try-out for the Laurentian soccer team. His future goals include pursuing a professional or junior sports team in the management field and travel to help develop minor sports in undeveloped countries.
