Brandon Connerty - April 14, 2005
Brandon Connerty is a top-ranked Canadian swimmer who is steadily advancing his position through an incredible focus on the sport he loves.
He has dedicated himself to achieving his utmost as a swimmer this season with countless hours of practice and fitness training. His hard work is paying off – Brandon is currently ranked 10th in Canada for the 200 metre backstroke in his age group. He competed at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Swim Championships recently held in Brantford finishing with a time of 2:07.38; he also placed 13th in the 100-metre backstroke with a time of 59.99.
A consistently high performer since the age of 12, Brandon's personal drive and unrelenting motivation has won him countless awards at Regional Championships. He also medalled at the Provincials and advanced to the finals at the Junior National competitions during his twelve-year career.
Brandon is a dedicated athlete who constantly pushes himself to the limit, he leads by example and is always taking time from his busy schedule to instruct and help guide many of the younger swimmers in the Brantford Aquatic Club.
For the past two years Brandon has also been part of his school's senior boys rugby team, and between the two sports he attends over 15 practices a week.
Brandon is an eighteen-year-old, grade 12 student from St. John's College, who works hard to keep his average above 85 per cent. His goal is to attend the University of Toronto next fall where he hopes to major in a business program and continue his swimming career by joining the varsity swim team.
