Brandon Armstrong - December 13, 2001
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Brandon Armstrong an 11 year-old, grade six student from Banbury Heights Public School who is a member of the Burford Figure Skating Club. Brandon began his skating career at age 7 while living in Edmonton where he placed 3rd at his first provincial competition in Manitoba. Last year Brandon won the Ontario Provincial Pre-Juvenile Men's Championship and was recognized by the Burford Skating Club with the Pryor Harris Award for the most improved skater. This year he qualified for the Ontario Winter Games in March 2002, by placing second at the Western Ontario Sectionals and is also the alternate for the Junior Nationals in January
2002. Brandon also plays soccer with the Brantford Youth Soccer League and was a member of the 2000 team that won the city championships. He also enjoys playing softball, soccer and volleyball for his school teams, he helps instruct other skaters in the Canskate Program at the Burford Skating Club and is a Peer Mediator at his school.
Brandon is also a strong student academically and his goal is to become a World Champion figure skater.
