Billy Gemmell - November 16, 2006
Billy Gemmell is a 12-year-old grade seven student at Our Lady of Providence Catholic School who enjoys his involvement in basketball, soccer and track and field.
Billy has actively participated in track and field since the age of nine; he won the 100m and 200m races at his school in 2005 and participated in the 100m finals at the city meet. In 2006, he won the junior boys 100m, 200m and high jump at his school and was named the Junior Boys Track & Field Champion. He then advanced to the city track & field meet where he placed 1st in the 100m relay, 3rd in both the 100m and 200m races and 6th in the high jump.
Billy has been playing CYO basketball since he was five years old and has been a member of the CYO Select B Rep. team since he was eight. In 2005, his team won a gold medal in the Under 10 boys division in the inaugural Community Living Brant 3-on-3 Streetball Tournament. In 2004 he won the Coach’s Award for his rep. team for his effort and hustle.
He has also been very active in soccer since he was four years old; he played on the Brantford Intercity Soccer Under 11 Brantford Impact rep. team in 2005, and on the Under 12 Brantford Bulldogs Rep. team in 2006 and was named captain of the team.
Billy has enjoyed his participation at both basketball and soccer skills development camps for the past five summers and is looking forward to volunteering in the CYO basketball program this year.
He is a dedicated student who works hard to maintain a B average, in grade 6 he achieved an A+ in Phys. Ed. during his final term.
Billy also enjoys camping and canoeing, hiking / biking on all of the trails throughout Brantford and Brant County, roller-blading and kayaking.
In the future, Billy plans to participate in basketball, soccer and track and field at both the high school and university levels, while pursuing a career as a teacher.
