Athlete of the Week - 2006 |
Ben Terejko - October 19, 2006
Ben Terejko is a recent graduate of St. John's College who was actively involved in a variety of school sports including basketball, volleyball, cross-country and track & field.
At the age of five Ben began playing CYO basketball and quickly advanced from a house league player to a rep. player. At the age of nine he was a member of the CYO rep team that won the Provincial Championship and was named MVP. Over the years he has been part of many championships in the CYO All-Star division.
In 2002 Ben was the Knights of Columbus International Free-Throw Champion, in 2003 he was a member of the St. John's midget boys basketball team that won the BCSSA Championships, in 2004 he was a member of the senior boys basketball team that finished in 2nd place at CWOSSA, in 2005/06 he was a member of the senior boys basketball team that won the BCSSA championships and received the senior boys basketball MVP award.
He was also a member of the St. John's junior boys volleyball team that won the BCSSA Championships in 2003.
Ben has received several notable awards over the years including the 2003 Bisons Alumni Gary Snowden Memorial award, the 2005/06 Senior Boys Athlete of the Year award, the 2006 CYO Scholarship award and the 2006 Bisons Alumni Academic-Athletic Scholarship.
Ben was a very active member of his high school participating in the concert band and stage band, he was involved in the Science tutorial program, and he visited elementary schools to talk about life in high school and the D.A.R.E. program.
He enjoyed volunteering with CYO as a coach, scorekeeper, and with skills sessions. He has been a referee for both house league and rep. levels since he was 12 years old. For the past three years he has been coordinating the referees for each division in the CYO boys house league program. He was also involved with the CYO 50th anniversary celebrations.
Ben was a dedicated and hardworking student who achieved a 90% average in grade 12. He is currently attending the University of Waterloo pursuing a degree in Kinesiology with hopes of playing varsity basketball. His goal for the future is to attend medical school.
