Ashley Steckle - August 30, 2001
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Ashley Steckle an all around athlete who excels in track and was chosen the 2001 senior girls' Athlete of the Year at Pauline Johnson Collegiate. Ashley placed 2nd at the Canadian Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 400 metre sprint and 4th in the 400 metre hurdles at the Canadian Jr. Championships in Calgary. She holds 9 high school track records in distance and 4 Brant County records in midget, junior and senior hurdles. She was also the Junior Female Athlete of the Year and the Senior Female Athlete of the Year (twice) at Pauline Johnson. Ashley was the Brant County champion in midget, junior and senior and won the silver medal at OFSAA in the 400 metre hurdles. Ashley excels in several other sports including baseball, basketball, volleyball and cross-country. She won the junior and senior MVP awards in basketball, the senior MVP awards for volleyball (twice) and was chosen the 2001 overall female winner of the Bisons' Alumni award. She has also assisted at basketball clinics and camps and coached in the Briers' basketball organization. Ashley will be attending the University of Windsor enrolled in Kinesiology and plans to compete for the track team.
